2024 Vespers Our next Vespers will be on Sunday, April 21 at 5:30 pm featuring Yael ZaZa. Yael will be entertaining and inspiring us for our last Jazz Vespers of the season. Yael plays classical guitar and sings. The music comes from all over the world and is sung in 10 different languages. With a French and Israeli heritage and a facility with languages, Yael is as adept at singing old U.S. rock and pop favorites and jazz standards, as she is singing songs from France, Israel, Spain and South America. This vibrant performer clearly gravitates to songs with Latin rhythms. Yael Zaza Flamenca was the opening act for Latin Grammy Winner Leo Dan, performing at some of the biggest venues across the United Sates, and has performed all over the world. Her music has been described as progressive, with influences from gypsy jazz, French music, Flamenco, and Latin vibes. Don't miss this rare opportunity. We are thrilled to have her perform for us! |

Vespers has its roots in the medieval monastic orders and is traditionally an evening service of readings and prayers recited as daylight fades and candles are lit. At St. Cyprian's, the Jazz Vespers service has become a notable favorite for community members throughout St. Augustine, regardless of their religious affiliation. It is an informal, contemplative, candlelit time of worship, featuring local musical talent and a wine & cheese reception, which follows across the courtyard at the Mission House.
Although the service is advertised as “Jazz Vespers,” from time-to-time we have other styles of music including Blues, Country, Gospel, Folk, Bluegrass, and even Classical Harp. In December our Vespers is usually a service of Lessons & Carols followed by a Red Train Tour of Lights in St. Augustine. In January, we celebrate the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a special guest speaker and a Gospel Choir. Other months may have a special focus as well such as celebrations honoring Women's History, Black History, Earth Day, etc.
