The
Outreach Ministries of St. Cyprian's are focused on serving our local
community members with immediate needs. Primary outreach efforts
center on Home Again St. Johns' Dining with Dignity program, the Wildflower
Clinic, and St. Johns’ Ecumenical Food Pantry.
Home Again St. Johns
St. Cyprians is active with Home Again St. Johns, an umbrella organization assisting individuals who are homeless in St. John’s County, through the Dining with Dignity Program. Father Ted, our Vicar, serves on the Home Again St. Johns Board of Directors. Through Dining with Dignity, a hot meal is provided every night of the year to those who are hungry. The corner parking lot at Bridge and Granada Streets becomes a dining room (rain or shine, hot or cold) every night of the month. Serving starts at 5:45 and ends at 6:30 with the numbers of diners ranging from 80 to 100 people. St. Cyprian’s is responsible for meals on the first Tuesday of every month and church members cook, serve and with the help of the diners, set up and take down tables and enjoy fellowship with each other. We are always looking for more cooks to add their favorites to our menus. For more information on Home Again St. Johns, visit their website. |
The Wildflower Clinic
Another significant outreach effort is the Wildflower Clinic (www.goodsamstaug.org) which provides free medical and dental services to all qualifying residents who are medically uninsured and unable to afford health care in St. Johns County. Started by St. Cyprians, this clinic, formerly known as the Good Samaritan Clinic, has had a long standing relationship with the church which has historically provided both financial and administrative assistance. The clinic which is located at 268 West Herbert Street in West Saint Augustine is an extremely important resource to individuals in need of emergency care and to the community. St. John’s Ecumenical Food Pantry
Finally, members of the church invest their time and energy in helping to staff the St. Johns Ecumenical Food Pantry each month. They help greet customers, document needs, keep computer inventories and records, pack food bags, and organize storage areas. In addition, members of the church are consistently faithful in donating food, toiletries, warm clothing and even pet food to the pantry. Throughout these difficult economic times, the pantry has been a source of sustenance for our community members through its provision of food by respectful and friendly volunteers. We are always looking for more folks to help out in this ministry! |
